Maal Daye Making Bold AF Statements pt 1; Drake is a better artist than any member of Odd Future
Wow, so you read the title and crinkled up your face huh? Well allow me to start this by saying. that I respect both of these acts and am sure they will both go down in history...now past that, allow me to explain why I say this. I may be wrong but if you pay attention to my post on here, I respect nothing more than originality. I feel that art in general is not art if it is not orginal. Its just a picture.
That being said, Drake came out with Comeback Season (and even ever since) with an unmatched level of honesty about his situation. Not that he was the first honest to make records about himself, his situation, his loves; but I do feel he was one of the first on a major scale to base his career off of that. With his lyrics and even his "drake flow" he actually brought a lot of change and progression to the game.
Now, anyone who knows me knows I love Earl, Tyler, Mellowhype, Domo...my favorite member is actually Jasper and I have overwhelming respect for Syd's hustle. I love everything they ever put out really so I would call myself a fan. Although, from an art standpoint they don't really bring a new standpoint because kids having fun has been around forever, let alone (aside from jasper's rare appearances) they don't even bring unused rap cadences, just a vintage hip hop style with an unsaturated view point. The comparison that flares up fighting anger in the group and most of its supporters is Tyler and Eminem. Now they will fight you because they have the same manager but that doesn't mean that Tyler necessarily stole any swag from him, but the similarities are clear.
In conclusion Drake is a better artist than any member of Odd Future only because he did most of what he did first (for whatever reason).
